It was listed by Art Deco World. Sold pieces stay on Sellingantiques as a record of what has passed through, and the next one is rarely far away.

Description

Originating from Czech republic this Art Deco centrepiece two handled bowl not only visually looks stunning with it's very distinctive green / yellow colouring and jet black enamel accents but is a great size too, 39cm wide! . The glass is extremely thick and therefore the bowl itself is deceptively heavy. Offered in excellent condition with no flaws or damage to note.

The most common color of uranium glass is pale yellowish-green, which in the 1930s led to the nickname "Vaseline glass" based on a perceived resemblance to the appearance (which was a yellow-green colour) of Vaseline brand petroleum jelly as formulated and commercially sold at that time. This vase definitely won't disappoint, we defy the new owner not to fall in love it.

Art Deco glass is characterised by geometric symmetry, stylised floral or animal motifs, sharp lines, and contrasting colour combinations, often utilising advanced moulding and enamelling techniques developed during the interwar period.

These pieces were typically crafted from pressed or blown glass containing uranium dioxide for its distinctive fluorescence, then hand-decorated with vitreous enamels, acid-etching, and cutting.

Authentic pieces exhibit a vibrant green or yellow hue under normal light and emit a bright neon green glow when exposed to ultraviolet (UV-A) light due to the presence of uranium oxide.

Position the piece as a focal point on a dark wood surface or within a lit cabinet to highlight its transparency and striking colour contrast against contemporary minimalist surroundings.

Clean gently by hand using lukewarm water and mild, non-abrasive detergent, avoiding harsh scrubbing or dishwashers to protect delicate enamel work and prevent surface scratching.
