This nineteenth-century Regency window seat is made from warm brown mahogany with a coral pink upholstered seat and gilded brass cup castors. The piece stands 71 cm high, 67 cm wide and 49 cm deep. Raised armrests include elaborate scrolls and S-shaped supports, while the seat features a moulded frame. Tulip-carved tapering legs complete the frame, finished with brass castors. Suitable for placement in a bay window or living room, the stool provides a practical and decorative seating option in a traditional home interior. The compact dimensions allow positioning in restricted spaces such as hallways or bedrooms. The combination of turned woodwork and upholstered fabric coordinates with various periods of classic and antique furnishings.

Originating in early 19th-century Britain, Regency window seats are characterized by Classical Greek and Roman influences, featuring scrolled end arms, symmetrical proportions, and turned or reeded timber legs.

Cabinetmakers during the Regency period primarily used solid mahogany or rosewood, often featuring brass castors, horsehair padding, and hand-woven textile upholstery.

Authentic pieces demonstrate hand-turned legs, original brass castor fittings, traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery, and natural patination on the mahogany framework.

A window seat functions well positioned at the foot of a bed, within an entry hall alcove, or beneath a window frame, paired with neutral walls to highlight the dark wood frame.

Maintain the timber by applying natural beeswax along the grain, keep the piece away from direct heat sources to prevent cracking, and clean upholstery with soft brush attachments.
