Clock Grandfather Loncase Clock C1825

19th century
Description

Here we have a beautiful and original Mahogany longcase Grandfather clock. This clock has a great connection with Abraham Lincoln of which there are more details below. The clock dates to 1825 and was made by William Bedford of Hingham Norfolk. William Bedford Was born in Westminster London in 1791. This Regency clock has all the high quality attributes associated with this maker. The clock has a beautiful handpainted dial with date and seconds hands and its original hour and minute hands. The handpainted pastoral scene seems to be depicting Hingham or Deopham chuch and related cottage. The top has beautiful gilded finials and an elaborate and beautifully executed shaped frieze. the maker has taken the trouble to shape the frieze to the rear of the top cover aswell. The front has hand reeded columns as you expect from a clock of this period which have gilded mounts top and bottom. The main body and base have fantastic moulding and a beautiful flamy grain to the Mahogany. The door has the original lock, escutcheon and key and has a lovely arched top and stringing detail. the clock case is finished in fine squashed bracket feet again with a shaped frieze. Every effort has been made to make this a very fine high quality piece. The 8 day movement weights, pendulum and bell chime are all original and it sounds as good as it did when new. This clock has been fully serviced, cleaned and polished and is ready to become the heartbeat for another home. A stunning and original clock of striking appearence in perfect working order.
