Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George II chest on stand is an 18th-century British storage piece originating from the reign of King George II (17271760). It typically features a top storage compartment mounted onto a raised frame or stand with cabriole legs and decorative aprons.

Cabinetmakers during this era predominantly used Cuban mahogany, oak for drawer linings, and cast brass for hardware such as escutcheons and handles. Construction relied on hand-cut dovetail joints and solid timber frames.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-sawn timber marks, uneven hand-cut dovetails, original cast brass fittings, and natural wood shrinkage along back panels. Dark natural oxidisation on unpolished undersides also indicates genuine age.

Place the chest against a neutral backdrop in an entryway, living room, or bedroom to create a focal point. Balance the dark mahogany tones by pairing the piece with modern art, ceramic lamps, or minimal textile furnishings.

Dust regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year along the wood grain. Keep the item away from direct sunlight, radiators, and areas with extreme humidity fluctuations.
