Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 1930 Chinoiserie cocktail cabinet on stand displays a black lacquered wood finish adorned with hand-painted polychrome and gilded motifs, naturalistic on-laid coloured soapstone decoration depicting pagodas, figures, flora, and fauna, plus brass hardware including a polished lock plate. The upper cabinet section sits upon a decorated base with cabriole legs, scroll feet, and an undershelf, while the exterior panels showcase botanical scenes featuring birds, and the interior incorporates a mirrored back and a plate glass shelf. The piece stands 149 cm high, 105 cm wide, and 73.5 cm deep. In a modern interior, this cocktail cabinet serves as a striking statement storage piece for a living room, dining room, or entertaining space to store bottles, glassware, and bar accessories. Its compact footprint combined with internal shelving and a sturdy stand makes it practical for practical service while adding decorative Eastern-inspired maximalist character to a domestic setting.

FAQs

Chinoiserie refers to European artistic interpretations of East Asian decorative arts, characterized by intricate lacquerware, gilt detailing, and traditional motifs such as pavilions, birds, and figures.

Traditional lacquered cabinets feature timber frames coated in layers of natural or synthetic resin varnish, decorated with hand-applied gold leaf, mineral pigments, and occasionally Mother of Pearl inlay.

Authentic pieces display subtle surface texture, natural craquelure in the lacquer, hand-engraved brass escutcheons or hinges, and layered paint application rather than modern flat printed transfers.

A dark lacquered piece serves as a focal point against neutral walls or deep jewel tones in a dining room, living room, or hallway, paired alongside modern minimalist seating.

Position the cabinet away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking; dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and avoid solvent-based cleaners or excessive water.
