French Vineyard Clock Double Striking Plus Half Hour Movement Restored 1870s

19th century
Description

Hi

I have for sale an 1870s French vineyard wall clock a very early and quite rare clock with a massive movement that strikes the hours and then the hours again two minutes later which makes it a genuine vineyard clock.

This clock has just come from France and was found in a large barn at the end of the old vineyard.

The Case

The case is in solid steel with a brass mask and has an oak shelf to mount to the wall She stands top of the bell to the tip of the pendulum 166cm high x 41cm wide with a depth of 26cm it is in very good original condition and has been well looked after.

.

The Dial

The dial is in original condition in white porcelain with Roman numerals all totally original and the maker and town the clock came from are on the dial, the hands are the original and very ornate.

The original pendulum is present.

The Movement

The movement is an eight-day time and strike which strikes the hours and halves on a massive steel gong a great mellow sound as it resonates out it then repeats the last hour again two minutes later so all the workers in the fields could hear the time.

At the half past, it is a different tone as it has x2 different hammers striking 1 bell.

Just serviced and oiled so keeping a great time over eight days.

This is a very early 1870s clock from France.
