Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Regency mahogany waterfall bookcase dates from circa 1800. It presents a rich dark mahogany colour with prominent flame mahogany door panels to the lower double-door cupboard and reeded fronts and sides on the graduated open shelves. Turned spindle columns support the upper open tiers, topped with a plain narrow gallery, while the entire structure rests on a solid plinth base. Subtle signs of age appear in the polished timber grain and slight surface variations across the rich red-brown polish. Standing 203 cm tall, 130 cm wide, and 36 cm deep, this large furniture piece provides substantial display and storage capacity. Traditional architectural proportions make this bookcase well suited for placement in a formal study, library, or drawing room. The upper graduated shelves accommodate collections of books, decorative ceramics, or ornamental objects, while the lower cabinet conceals everyday items to maintain an orderly appearance. Substantial proportions anchor it against a wall in rooms requiring significant traditional storage and display space.

FAQs

A Regency waterfall bookcase is a tiered open shelving unit originating from the early 19th century, characterised by shelves that recede in depth from bottom to top, often resting on a cupboard base.

These pieces were typically crafted from solid mahogany and mahogany veneers, featuring hand-dovetailed joinery, turned spindle supports, and flame mahogany panel doors.

Authentic pieces display evidence of hand-planed timber, irregular hand-cut dovetail joints, period-correct brass hardware, and genuine aged patina on the rear wood panels.

Place the unit in a dining room or living space to display ceramics, curated book collections, or glassware, balancing classical proportions with contemporary decorative accents.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the timber and maintain the finish.
