A rare 13th century turquoise glaze vase from the Kashan region of Persia (Iran).

A great example of the turquoise the Kashan region is associated with. Kashan is a region famed for its rugs but also has a strong associate with ceramics. Kashan began producing stoneware with tin glazing from the mid 12th century.

The flared rim decorated with inverted chevrons, to a double line with hand painted abstract 'tree of life' motif.

Overall condition good with one 1cm rim chip and various glaze flaking consummate with age.

Kashan was a major centre for ceramic production in medieval Persia, particularly during the 12th to 14th centuries under the Seljuk and Ilkhanid dynasties. The region became renowned for developing fritware bodies, lusterware, and distinctive copper- or cobalt-tinted alkaline glazes.
