Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century French provincial buffet deux corps, or two-piece cupboard, comes in burr elm with a warm brown finish. The piece comprises an upper cabinet with two fielded panel doors and a lower base section featuring two drawers above two lower cabinet doors, supported by short cabriole feet. Hand-carved floral cresting adorns the top frieze and the bottom apron, complemented by matching circular rosette details between the doors and drawers, as well as exposed iron barrel hinges running the height of the doors and key escutcheons. The wood displays pronounced burr figuring across the grain and a polished wax sheen. Measuring 232 cm high, 140 cm wide, and 66 cm deep at the base, this substantial storage unit functions well in a kitchen or dining room as a traditional pantry or dish cupboard, offering accessible shelving for tableware and provisions. The dual-section construction separates the upper and lower cabinets for placement against a wall, while working keys secure the compartments.

FAQs

A Buffet Deux Corps is a traditional French two-piece storage cabinet featuring an upper cupboard stacked directly atop a wider base cabinet with doors or drawers.

These cabinets are predominantly constructed from solid native hardwoods such as walnut, oak, cherry, or fruitwood, assembled with mortise-and-tenon joinery and fitted with hand-forged ironmongery.

Authentic examples feature hand-carved decorative motifs, hand-sawn timber backing panels, elongated exterior barrel hinges known as fiches, and evidence of historic hand-planing on structural elements.

Position the piece as a focal point in a dining room, kitchen, or living space, balancing its substantial visual weight against neutral wall tones and simplified contemporary accessories.

Dust surfaces regularly using a soft dry cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish annually to nourish the wood fibres and protect the original patinated finish.
