Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Cloisonne is a decorative art technique where thin metal wires or strips are soldered onto a metal substrate to create compartmentalised designs. These compartments, or cloisons, are filled with powdered glass enamel paste and fired in a kiln to produce vibrant, durable patterns.

Antique cloisonne typically utilises a copper or brass body as the foundation. Fine copper or brass wire forms the intricate outlines, while vitreous metallic oxide enamels are used to apply the rich polychrome colours before polishing the entire surface smooth.

Authentic pieces display subtle hand-crafted irregularities, such as fine wirework solder joints, minor pitting or pinholes in the fired enamel surface, and noticeable weight from the solid metal core and glass enamel layers.

Positioning a symmetrical pair on a mantelpiece, console table, or sideboard creates an elegant focal point. Their vivid colours and detailed wirework pair exceptionally well with minimalist backdrops, dark timber furniture, or eclectic gallery displays.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth to clean the enamel. Avoid water or liquid cleaners, as moisture can cause oxidation along exposed metal rims or wire edges. Keep items away from direct sunlight and extreme humidity.
