Small George IV Mahogany Bracket Clock Timepiece by William James of Bristol, C.1820-25

Description

A charming George IV period mahogany and brass inlaid Bracket Clock timepiece of small proportions. The maker is William James of Bristol who was recorded as working between 1807 and 1826. This movement is 8-day fusee driven and retains its original pendulum. The case is of smaller than usual proportions and has a domed top with brass carry-handle. The front features brass inlays comprising stars, dots and more ornate leaves. the case is supported on four brass ball feet.

The convex glass and brass surround door are opened by the (original) key. The painted dial features roman numerals and diamond 5-minute markers with the makers name painted on the dial. The spade hands are typical of the period, ornately decorated.

Dimensions:  Height 13 inches (handle up). Width 7.4 inches. Depth: 4.8 inches (33 x 18.7 x 12.4 cms)
