Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

These 19th Century French Empire bedside and side stands are formed from warm brown mahogany with white marble inset tops and octagonal plinth bases. Each piece takes a cylindrical column shape with fluted timber running down the vertical body, a moulded circular top edge, and subtle surface grain variations across the wood. The stands measure 72 cm high, 40 cm wide, and 40 cm deep. Positioned in a bedroom as matching bedside tables or in a living space as side stands, these cupboards provide a practical surface for lamps or small decorative items while offering enclosed storage within. The classic classical proportions and rich timber tones suit traditional interiors, elegant dressing rooms, or period properties requiring balanced symmetrical placement.

FAQs

A somnoe is a French 19th-century cylindrical bedside cabinet traditionally constructed with a marble top, designed during the Empire and Restoration periods to house nighttime essentials.

These stands are predominantly constructed from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers, featuring inset marble tops and heavy octagonal or circular timber plinth bases.

Authentic pieces feature traditional joinery, hand-worked fluting or faceted panel details, substantial solid timber weight, and genuine period marble tops exhibiting natural veining.

These pedestals function effectively as symmetrical bedside tables framing a bedstead, or as occasional stands placed alongside seating in a living space.

Dust the timber structure with a soft microfibre cloth and apply beeswax occasionally along the grain, while cleaning the marble top with a pH-neutral cleaner to protect against etching.
