18th Cent Mahogany Longcase Clock

18th century
Description

An elegant longcase clock of small proportions, the dial signed for Simon De Charmes of London. He is listed as working there from1692 to 1730.

The case is of lovely slim proportions and is in well figured mahogany. It stands on a double plinth, has a paneled base and slim moulded trunk door.

The 8 day, five pillar movement strikes the hours on a bell. It has a smart 11" brass dial with a silvered chapter ring, gilt spandrels and beautifully engraved finely matted centre.

The case is in good condition and is a good colour.

The movement is in good running order and keeping good time. It has, over the years, had some modifications. The main one is that the later pendulum is now suspended from a block attached to the case back board rather than from the back of the movement. There are also some vacant holes in the movement back plate. The movement and case are possibly not original to each other.

That said it is a very attractive period clock at a fraction of the price of one 100% original.

The maximum dimensions are:

203cm (80") high

48cm (19") wide

25cm (10") deep

Free local delivery and setup (60mls), national and international delivery arranged at cost
