FAQs

Early 20th-century French lanterns typically feature geometric metal frames, bevelled glass panels, and refined proportions designed to illuminate entrance halls and vestibules.

These pieces were conventionally constructed using soldered metal frameworksoften brass or bronze with silver platingfitted with individual glass panes and suspended by chains.

Authenticity is indicated by period-appropriate wiring components, hand-soldered joints, natural ageing and oxidisation of the silver plating, and heavy, genuine glass panels rather than modern acrylic.

Suspending the fixture in an entryway, above a staircase landing, or in a compact hallway adds architectural character and provides a focal point that contrasts with modern furnishings.

Dust the glass and metal frame gently with a dry microfiber cloth, avoiding harsh chemical silver dips that can strip the historic patina from the plated surfaces.
