This pair of nineteenth-century table lamps belongs to the Victorian period and exhibits a Victorian and Gothic style. Each lamp comprises a frosted glass shade, a painted metal column with red and gold polychrome decoration, a gilt brass collar, a lobed gilded base, and a hexagonal plinth. The metal columns are finished in black with ornate red and gold patterns running vertically down the shafts. Visible details include the flared rims of the glass shades, the multi-lobed petal forms of the gilded bases, and the flat faces of the dark hexagonal plinths beneath. Each lamp measures 55 cm high, 13 cm wide, and 13 cm deep, making them suitable for placement on a sideboard top, a console table, or a desk in a traditional or period interior. They provide functional lighting while serving as decorative tabletop accessories.

Victorian and 19th-century lighting featured ornate columns, intricate hand-painted decoration, and frosted or etched glass shades designed to diffuse light evenly across formal living spaces.

Craftsmen primarily utilised cast brass, gilt bronze, hand-painted metal columns, and blown frosted glass shades mounted on solid weighted bases for stability.

Authentic examples display natural patination on metal mounts, hand-painted details with minor individual variations, original glass galleries, and evidence of historical oil fittings or early electrical conversions.

Place a symmetrical pair on a sideboard, console table, or fireplace mantelpiece to introduce height, texture, and historical contrast within contemporary or traditional decor schemes.

Dust glass shades gently with a soft microfibre cloth and warm soapy water, avoiding harsh chemicals, and clean metal elements using a soft dry brush to preserve original gilt patination.
