Good Mid-18th Century Ebonised Bracket Clock

Description

A splendid quality and impressive mid/late 18th century BRACKET CLOCK by Samuel Cochran of London. The beautifully ebonised case features an upper cast brass handle to the “bell” top; four cast brass “pineapple” finials; cast brass spandrels to the upper part of the front door and it is supported on cast brass ogee feet.

The eight-day movement retains its original anchor escapement, striking hours on a bell, whilst the backplate features an attractive engraved border, with identical engraved decoration to the bob of the original pendulum, and an engraved signature. The “Chapter-ring-and-spandrels” dial, also with engraved signature to the silvered centre, displays a lovely hand-painted “rolling moon” to the arch, which is also original and in excellent condition. Perfect working order and a most handsome Bracket Clock. 18.5ins high (excluding the handle); 11ins wide; 7ins deep. English circa 1770-1790

* Samuel Cochran is recorded as working in Wapping, East London 1760-1794.
