FJ & RD Story Antique Clocks has dated this piece to the Georgian era.
The hood door flanked by turned and reeded columns terminating with cast brass Corinthian capitals. The figured flame mahogany trunk door above the paneled base, all set on four ogee bracket feet. The original steel locks to both the hood and trunk door.

The beautifully executed arched japanned dial of “Wilson” manufacture, with Roman numeral chapter ring and outer Arabic numeral markings, with subsidiary seconds dial and date zone. A finely manufactured japanned decorated dial with painted raised gilt gesso and flower corner spandrels, signed to the arch Jno Startudge Cows.

The fully restored fine quality eight day duration movement, united by five knopped pillars and rack striking the hours on a single bell.
Finely fretted blued steel hands of serpentine design.
The original lead weights and brass bob pendulum.

The movement is fully restored by our horologist who is a Fellow of the British Horological Institute (FBHI), having 35 years of full time professional engagement in the repair & restoration of clocks, watches, music boxes & barometers. He was the recipient of the 1977 Worshipful Company of Clockmakers Bronze Medal.
