Cross Antiques has dated this piece to the 1850s.
The case is in nicely figured mahogany with boxwood line inlay. The trunk has quater fluted columns with brass capitals. The hood has matching fluted columns also with brass capitals.
The good quality 8 day movement strikes the hours on a bell and has a smart painted dial. It has a subsidiary seconds hand, date aperture and displays the phases of the moon to the arch.
The case is in good unrestored condition but does have the inevitable signes of age and use. The movement is in good running order and keeping good time. The dial is a little faded and there is a small crack in the hood glass. As it looks to be the original glass i have not replaced it.
