Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

These Victorian cobalt blue glass spill vases comprise a pair of heavy cut glass pieces made from cobalt glass with gold leaf finish. The objects feature faceted glass, courting figures, scrollwork gilding, and hexagonal feet, along with octagonal bases, round stems, and octagonal bodies, and retain their original untouched gilded decoration. Each piece measures 17 cm high, 7.5 cm wide, and 7.5 cm deep. Such vessels suit placement on a mantelpiece within a traditional living space or reception room today. They can hold small dried stems or stand as decorative ornaments on a mantel, shelf, or cabinet surface, bringing period detail and rich colour to an interior display.

FAQs

Wash gently by hand using lukewarm water and mild soap, avoiding abrasive sponges, chemical cleaners, or soaking, as friction and extreme temperatures can rub off or compromise the hand-applied gilding.

Place these vases on a lit mantelpiece, sideboard top, or window sill where light can filter through the cobalt blue glass, highlighting the contrast between the dark hue and gold detailing against neutral backdrops.

Authentic pieces often display hand-cut facets, polished pontil marks on the base, minor irregularities in hand-painted gilding, and substantial weight characteristic of traditional glass recipes.

Antique Bohemian glassware was typically hand-blown using potash-lime glass formulas that allowed for deep tinting like cobalt blue, followed by hand-cutting or faceting and hand-applied gold enamel embellishment fired onto the surface.

Bohemian glass refers to decorative glassware produced in the regions of Bohemia and Silesia, now part of the Czech Republic, renowned since the Renaissance for high quality, vibrant colouring, and detailed gilding or cutting techniques.
