Geo Borrett of Stowmarket Mid 18th C. Oak Grandfather Longcase Clock with 8 Day Fusee Movement

18th century
Description

Brian Loomes Lists 2 Geo Borrett Clockmakers at Stowmarket, Suffolk - Father & Son.

Geo 1 - "next door to the Black Swan, Married 1753, Insolvent 1780. Also at Market Place, Harwich (Essex) c.1773-4. Also Jeweller & Silversmith.

Geo 2 - Stowmarket (Suffolk) Born 1754. Moved to Harwick (Essex) Died 1773.

As Geo 2 Died only aged 19, it is likely that this Clock was by Geo 1 and one of his early clocks before he moved to Harwick.

Good Solid Oak Case with Attractive Decoration and Patination. Height 80.67in or 204.75cm

Upon looking closely at all aspects of this clock, we are of the opinion that, whilst the Dial has its design origins typical of Dials Fitted to 30 Hour Single Weight Long Pendulum Grandfather Clocks; it, the Movement and Case were conceived and made for each other from their formulation to give a Traditional look But with the then Modern Technology of a Fusee Timepiece.

This has been Checked, Service, Tested and offered in Good and Full Antique Working Condition.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
