Very Good French Ormolu Mantel Clock

Description

A lovely quality (and quite small) mid-19th century ormolu** MANTEL CLOCK in perfect working order. The case, with its integral base, is beautifully cast retaining its original mercury gilding, whilst the 8-day movement with “silk” suspension and outside countwheel, strikes hours and half-hours on a bell. Signed both to the dial and the movement: Huguenin à Paris. 12ins (30cms) high. French circa 1840.

** Ormolu is usually bronze, gilded with gold; this is a particularly fine example, and for its size, very heavy!
