Bateman of London, Georgian Long Case / Grandfather Clock.

18th century
Description

A fine quality George III flame mahogany 8 day longcase clock by Bateman of Great Tower Street London.

Maker: Andrew Bateman was Apprenticed in 1776 and made Livery of the Clockmakers Company in 1812. He died in 1816.

The high quality “Gentleman’s Library” style case veneered in beautifully figured flame mahogany. The break arch hood surmounted with a stepped pediment with a cast brass finial, below canted stop fluted corners with brass reeding. The convex circular glass bound with locking cast brass bezel. The hood sides with glass viewing windows. The razor edge moulded long trunk door with choice curled mahogany veneers, flanked by canted corners with brass reeded inlay. The moulded edge raised panel to the base with London style double plinth and pad feet.

The convex circular white enamelled dial signed Bateman, Great Tower Street, London to the centre.

The fully restored high quality movement of eight day duration, the shaped plates united by five knopped pillars, anchor escapement and strikes the hours on a single bell.

Brass cased weights and heavy brass bob pendulum with gilded wooden rod.

Finely cut blued steel hands.

The movement is fully restored by our horologist who is a Fellow of the British Horological Institute (FBHI), having 35 years of full time professional engagement in the repair & restoration of clocks, watches, music boxes & barometers. He was the recipient of the 1977 Worshipful Company of Clockmakers Bronze Medal.

All of our clocks have been sympathetically restored and have been expertly vetted for originality and good working order. All clocks purchased from us are guaranteed for twelve months.

Delivery and installation of our longcase clocks is carried out free of charge within the U.K. For overseas customers a fully insured door to door service is provided by our regular couriers, please contact us for a specific quotation. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
