Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the 1860s.
The 'gorge' cased clock is in good original condition. The top glass is rectangular, allowing for excellent viewing of the inner workings. The enamelled dial has painted roman numerals with diamond quarter markers. It also retains its original blued steel 'moon' hands, typical of this period.
There is a subsidiary dial for the Alarum function, which has it's own winding train and adjuster, it also strikes with a separate hammer. The back of the movement is stamped W. PAYNE, 163 New Bond Street (the retailer) who almost exclusively bought all their clocks from the famous maker Alfred Drocourt.

Date: The serial number '41' suggests that this clock was produced around c.1860.
