Opaline glass is an opaque or translucent glass produced primarily in France during the 19th century, particularly popular during the restoration and napoleon iii periods, known for its distinctive pastel and vibrant colour palette.

These items are crafted from blown opaline glass featuring hand-applied fire gilding, often incorporating intricate neoclassical motifs and bronze or brass mounts.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit hand-finished pontil marks on the base, genuine wear to the fire gilding, weight consistent with heavy lead glass formulations, and characteristic manufacturing bubbles within the material.

These decorative objects can be displayed on a mirrored vanity tray, integrated into a dressing room shelving display, or used as accent pieces on a mantelpiece to add a touch of historical colour and texture.

Clean gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth to remove dust. Avoid using water, alcohol, or chemical cleaners, as these can easily damage or completely remove the delicate hand-applied gilding.
