Its About Time has dated this piece to the 1800s.
The original blued steel hands are quite unique and have a quatrefoil design at the tip. The dial also has a very useful Strike - Silent feature above the 12. To the sides are sound frets, Fishscale in design with silk backing to let the sound of the bell out.
The high quality 8-day double fusee movement strikes the hours on a bell and has pull repeat. The back plate is signed (engraved ) by the maker and has a substantial brass pendulum and rating screw.
Robert Molyneux was at 44 Devonshire Street in the heart of Marylebone during the Regency Period, he was originally the pupil of Thomas Earnshaw and produced some of the finest domestic clocks, regulators and chronometers in London. He also made several marine chronometers for Captain Robert Fitzroy who accompanied Charles Darwin on the H.M.S Beagle. One of the 56hr marine chronometers was recently sold at a large London auction for over £100,000.
