Antique Dial Wall Clock, Convex Dial, Fusee, Georgian, Renowned Clockmakers

19th century
Sold by Clockwise
Description

For your enjoyment Clockwise is pleased to offer for sale this handsome looking Georgian mahogany cased, convex dial, English fusee wall clock, The case has enjoyed a recent restoration and is typical of the period with a narrower surround to the dial which is held onto the main body of the case by wooden pegs. There is a side door and lower case door also. The eight day wire-driven movement with knopped pillars and shaped shoulders is fitted with an anchor escapement and has just benefitted from a complete overhaul. The lovingly restored convex dial is twelve inches in diameter with fantastic patina and signed 'Tucker, Tiverton' and original blued steel hands further compliment this lovely piece of history. The cast brass bezel with working lock frames the dial beautifully. The false plate is signed 'Finnemore & Son' making this clock relatively easy to date from 1819 onwards.

Biography: The Tucker family were well-known clockmakers in Tiverton with John working in Fore Street between circa 1760 until 1805 and the family business continuing until the 1840s. Tiverton has a clock tower signed 'Tucker 1830'.

This is a lovely clock and comes with my three year guarantee as standard.

Rather than trusting a courier of any sort I prefer collection or I can deliver regionally/nationally. I do use Royal Mail as a courier and post nationally so this tracked and insured service is available, please enquire for a quote. All antique clocks require delicate handling and specific setting up so it is far better for a dealer to meet a client and talk them through the process, or set the clock up for them, rather than leave the client struggling at the other end on their own but this redoubtable clock will be straightforward to set up for you. I am always available for a video chat should there be any problems.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
