A small and beautifully chic original antique French Louis XVI style 'Pendule D'Officier, retailed by the famous firm of Waring and Gillow. It of excellent quality and is made of the most stunning variegated green onyx mounted with fine ormolu (finely gilded brass) mounts. The dial is lettered in blue on a cream enamel ground on copper and has the Waring and Gillow signature. It is fitted with original delicately fretted brass hands and convex glass bezel.

The handle is a depiction of Ouroboros, the serpent eating its own tail, a symbol of the continuity of life in mythology.

The French movement is of excellent quality and has a platform escapement - no pendulum to set up. It has been fully overhauled by our clockmaker, runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell, click the movie below to see and hear the movement!

The finish of the ormolu is excellent, bright and clean with just some very minor wear. The onyx is also in excellent condition with just some minor nibbles to the edges. The original glass has some bubbles and ripples on close inspection. The dial is in very good condition with no chips or scratches.

Complete with bell and a suitable key.
