L.n.e.r Railway Fusee Wall Clock

1900 - 1920
Sold by Clockwise
Description

For your enjoyment I am proud to offer this twelve inch diameter dial authentic and genuine L.N.E.R railway clock with provenance and proof of purchase from British Rail London Midland Region.

This quality English wire-driven fusee movement has been fully overhauled and is in excellent condition, the front plate having the number on the dial scratched into its surface. The rectangular plates are held together by turned shaped pillars screwed in front and back. The one piece oak case has fantastic colour and patination since its restoration and the lower case retains its stabilising hooks. The recently restored dial is a particular feature of this lovely clock and is complimented by the original hands and finished off with a spun brass bezel hinged on the right. The back box is of typical mid to late 19th century design with one side door and a bottom door secured by a turn lock. The dial is inscribed with the numbers 12545 and the clock retains its original pendulum.

The LNER Clock Register records clock number 12545 being located at “Liverpool Street Loco Run – 12” Dial – Despatch Office”. Above this has been added “(TFC MGR) 155 Bishopsgate” and below the entry is marked “To Collectors Corner 22.11.83”.

It can be safely assumed that ‘Loco Run’ refers to a locomotive running shed or stabling depot. The address of 155, Bishopsgate was adjacent to the East side of the station where it is conceivable that the ‘Traffic Manager’ resided. I think it is fair to say that this clock was located in a building which has subsequently been redeveloped but was once part of the operational side of the terminus.

This is a stunning and rare clock in gorgeous condition and comes with my three year guarantee as standard.

Rather than trusting a courier of any sort I recommend collection or I can deliver regionally/nationally. I do use Royal Mail as a courier and post nationally so this tracked and insured service is available, please enquire for a quote. All antique clocks require delicate handling and specific setting up so it is far better for a dealer to meet a client and talk them through the process, or set the clock up for them, rather than leave the client struggling at the other end on their own but this redoubtable clock will be straightforward to set up for the client. I am always available for a video chat should there be any problems.
