Fabulous Eight Day Fusee Wall Clock, Retailed by Camerer & Kuss

19th century
Sold by Clockwise
Description

This is a delightful English fusee dial clock from the renowned retailers Camerer and Kuss who were one of the most prestigious retailers of high quality clocks from various sites in London. Please note the earlier spelling of 'Kuss' on this dial - the German company founders changed the spelling to 'Cuss' as a result of anti-Germanic feeling in the UK at the outbreak of World War One. A lot of retailers date the later spelling as an earlier clock which is misleading.

The substantial 8 day duration fusee movement has squared plates which would date the clock circa 1870 and the wire-driven movement is in perfect order having just been serviced and retains its original pendulum .

The twelve inch dial and original hands are magnificent and a real feature of this rare piece and the turned oak surround and cabinet box, which has an opening side door and a locking lower door complete with original key, are in excellent condition. There is a retailer's label to the rear of the case and indeed inside the case.

This magnificent piece is a genuine and authentic piece of history and comes with my three year guarantee as standard. In this condition and from this period there are hardly any of these fine clocks for sale from this famous retailer.

Rather than trusting a courier of any sort I recommend collection or I can deliver regionally/nationally. I do use Royal Mail as a courier and post nationally so this tracked and insured service is available, please enquire for a quote. All antique clocks require delicate handling and specific setting up so it is far better for a dealer to meet a client and talk them through the process, or set the clock up for them, rather than leave the client struggling at the other end on their own but this redoubtable clock will be straightforward to set up for the client. I am always available for a video chat should there be any problems.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
