Description

This is a top quality ebonised London bracket clock by G.W.BLACKIE. 39, THE STRAND The whole clock is in superb condition and purportedly originates from an English Grand House, home of an Earl.

The arched ebonised case has a highly polished finish, contrasting beautifully with the silvered dial and gilt corner finials. Also the elaborate door surround, the gilt side frets and the splayed bracket feet.

The silvered, arched dial has an engraved chapter ring with black Roman numerals interspaced with fleur-de-lis and foliate engraving to the corners and arch. It has subsidiary rise-and-fall, STRIKE/SILENT and Westminster/Cambridge dials to the arch. It is signed with the makers name to the centre. (G.W.Blackie is recorded in Loomes "Clock Makers of the World" as working at 39, The Strand C1850).

The triple, chain driven, fusee movement is a work of art, striking either the westminster/cambridge tune on a nest of 8, highly tuned bells at the quarters and the hours on a heavy steel gong. It has just been fully overhauled by our Bhi registered staff and carries our usual 12mths full parts and labour guarantee. It has a London style, lockable pendulum.

Clearly a clock of immaculate pedigree.
