Late 18th Cent Mahogany Longcase Clock

Description

A nice little longcase clock by Benjamin Lockwood of Swaffham, Norfolk. He is listed as working there from 1766 to 1822. According to Loomes he was an apprentice to Peter Hay, clock maker of St James, London. This is evident in some of the features this clock has in common with London clocks of the time, e.g. Five pillar movement and strike / silent selector, not common features in provincial clocks.

The good quality case is in mahogany with boxwood inlay and a very smart oval of flame mahogany to the trunk door.

The movement is in good condition and looks to have been recently serviced. It is running well and keeping good time.

The case has been restored and has had a few veneer repairs, however it is in good overall condition.

The maximum dimensions are:

46cm (18") wide

24cm (9.5") deep
