Early Georgian Longcase Clock. Blakeway of Albrighton. Shrops.

18th century
Description

A 300year old beautiful longcase (Grandfather) clock by BLAKEWAY of ALBRIGHTON (SHROPS).

The magnificent oak case has all the character and patination that only age can produce. It has sympathetically contrasting mahogany edging throughout, giving it an extra touch of elegance. There are quarter, reeded pillars to the corners with brass doric capitals. The hood again has reeded pillars and brass capitals below a swan-necked pediment, finished with brass patera and finials.

The 8 day movement strikes the hours on a bell with a crisp clear tone. It has just been fully overhauled by our BHI registered staff and carries our usual 12mths full parts and labour guarantee

The arched, painted dial is in lovely condition, having painted roses to the corners and the arch and is signed with the makers name. There are subsidiary seconds and date dials.

BLAKEWAY of ALBRIGHTON is recorded in Loomes "Clockmakers of the World" as working in Albrighton between 1774-1809 where he advertised "Wheels cut for clockmakers at 6d per set and dyal plates engraved at 2s.6d. each."

A real character clock.

All cards accepted.

In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
