19th Cent 8 Day Longcase Long Case Grandfather Clock

Description

A handsome 19th Cent longcase clock. The case is in highly figured mahogany with nice decorative cross banding.

The dial is signed for Mills, Dowlais. I can't find reference to this maker but there is a Dowlais near Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales and the case of typical South Wales design.

It's unusual to find a brass dial clock of this period (1840) so I can't guarantee all parts started life together but there are no obvious signs they didn't.

The 8 day movement strikes the hours on a bell and it has a smart brass dial with subsidiary seconds dial and date indicator.

The maximum dimensions are:

212cm (83.5") high

51cm (20") wide

24cm (9.5") deep
