English Regency Mahogany Table Clock by George Yonge

Description

An extremely good quality English Regency figured mahogany arched top table clock with boxwood string inlay, floral inlay and ebony and boxwood chequered inlay. The clock has brass fish scale side sound frets stood on brass ball feet with a seven inch white painted dish dial with Roman numerals and the name:-

The movement is a five pillar eight day duration twin fusee with pull repeat action and strikes the hours on a bell. The back plate is also engraved 'George Yonge, London' The front plate is marked with the makers name and serial number which is also stamped in to the case

Thwaites

The serial number dates the clock at 1812

The Thwaites clock making business was established in 1772 by Aynsworth Thwaites before his son John took over. Thwaites were fine clock makers who also supplied clock movements to other well known clock makers. In 1816, Thwaites partnered with George Jeremiah Reed, and the firm became Thwaites & Reed.

George Yonge was also a fine clock and watch maker from 1776 - 1832 some of his works were for the King and the Lord High Admiral.

The clock movement has been cleaned and serviced and comes with a 12 month guarantee.
