A Small English Dial Wall Clock by H.williamson Ltd, Coventry. Circa Early 1900'S

1900 - 1920
Description

This is a small English dial, fusee wall clock with an 8" dial and mahogany case in excellent condition.

The eight day duration, chain fusee movement with Anchor Recoil escapement and screwed pillars. The backplate bearing the serial number "59561" and bearing the trade mark of "ASTRAL" and "COVENTRY" within a winding key.

The cream painted, 8" diameter iron dial has black Roman numerals, minute ring and steel 'spade' hands. Also having a glazed brass bezel.

In a mahogany case of good patina and colour and having a side access door and a curved, cockbeaded, locking door to the curved bottom.

Astral was the trade name of H. Williamson Ltd. and the factory was located in Coventry. The chain fusee movement was the first type to be produced in Coventry in 1910 and production continued there up until 1932. The company amalgamated with Grimshaw, Baxter and JJ Elliott in 1921 to form English Clock & Watch Manufacturers of Coventry Ltd. This was subsequently sold to Smiths after it went into receivership in 1931 and Smiths continued to use the Astral trade name into the 1950s.

The price is for the clock with the movement fully overhauled and guaranteed.

The purchased item can be collected at a time mutually agreed or if required, delivery can be arranged for which we are happy to provide a quotation.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
