Cross Antiques has dated this piece to the Georgian era.
The case is in beautifully figured mahogany and is in excellent original unrestored condition. The hood has an elegant swan neck pedement with original gilt brass patria. Both the hood and trunk have bold fluted columns and it stands on its original bracket feet.

The good quality 8 day movement strikes the hours on a bell and has a very smart painted dial. To the arch is a pastoral scene of a farmer ploughing. It also has attractive spandrels painted to represent peacock feathers.
