Stunning Eight Day Striking Victorian Bracket Clock

19th century
Sold by Clockwise
Description

This truly is a magnificent Victorian oak bracket clock. The case incorporates some wonderful polished bronze ormolu mounts and is a superb example from the renowned makers Winterhalder & Hofmeier who predominantly made clocks for the English market. This movement has a double ('ting tang' strike) every quarter on two separate gongs and a single-gong strike of the full hour every hour.

With its original bevelled glass, side lion mounts and sturdy carrying handle this clock is in gorgeous condition. The dial has been cleaned and polished and the case has been restored and oiled to highlight the fantastic patina encasing the recently serviced movement.

The clock chimes one 'ting tang' on the quarter past, two 'ting tangs' on the half past and three 'ting tangs' on the quarter to. Finally it then strikes the hours on the hour.

This stunning clock comes with my standard two year guarantee for peace of mind.

Rather than trusting a courier of any sort I unreservedly recommend collection or I can deliver regionally. All antique clocks require delicate handling and specific setting up so it is far better for a dealer to meet a client and talk them through the process, or set the clock up for them, rather than leave the client struggling at the other end on their own.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
