Eight Day Large Winterhalder & Hofmeier Striking Bracket Clock

19th century
Sold by Clockwise
Description

An extremely good quality walnut clock with ormolu mounts and ornate sound frets to the sides of the case. The clock has a decorative brass dial and silvered chapter ring with a slow-fast mechanism and is another fantastic Winterhalder and Hofmeier ting tang movement that strikes the quarters, halves, and hours on two gongs. Winterhalder & Hofmeier were considered the finest clockmakers of the Victorian era and were based in Germany’s Black Forest region. The company was established in 1810 and in 1850 Anton Hofmeier joined the company, who was himself a clockmaker and relative to the Winterhalder family. The company then became known as Winterhalder and Hofmeier. This is the larger size of this style available and has been fully restored; standing 16 inches tall it comes with working locks and key and has my standard two-year warranty

Rather than trusting a courier of any sort I unreservedly recommend collection or I can deliver regionally. All antique clocks require delicate handling and specific setting up so it is far better for a dealer to meet a client and talk them through the process, or set the clock up for them, rather than leave the client struggling at the other end on their own.

Declaration

Clockwise has dated this piece to the 1860s.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
