A Good 19th Century French Alarum Carriage Clock by Drocourt

19th century
Description

A good late 19th century gilt-brass French Carriage Clock by the famous maker Alfred Drocourt.

The 'gorge' cased clock is in excellent condition and the whole clock has been cleaned and overhauled (last three years), so is presented in very clean order. The top glass is rectangular, allowing for excellent viewing of the inner workings. The enamelled dial has painted roman numerals with 5 minute dot markers and arabic numbers against its outer chapter ring. It also retains its original blued steel 'moon' hands, typical of this period.

The clock retains its original 8-day platform lever escapement and strikes hours and half-hours on a coiled gong. There is a subsidiary dial for the Alarm function, which has it's own winding train and strikes with a separate hammer. The clock and key both carry the serial number 7596. The traditional 'DC' trademark is stamped on the rear plate (left centre).

Date: The serial number '7596' suggests that this clock was produced around c.1868-70.

Height: 6 inches (handle 'up') 15cm.
