Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the 18th Century.
To the sides are twin ormolu panels cast with cherubs whilst the front door features similar ormolu spandrels. The 8-day movement, with engraved backplate retains its original verge escapement striking and repeating hours on a bell, whilst the good dial has Strike/Silent control in the arch and a third gilded hand, to show the date. Signed: John Taylor to the cartouche below XII. 18ins high.
