Fine 18th Century Bracket Clock by John Taylor of London

Description

A fine 18th century mahogany BRACKET CLOCK of compact size and in good original condition. The case is typically George III, with its bell top; set of four cast brass pineapple finials and cast carrying handle. To the sides are twin ormolu panels cast with cherubs whilst the front door features similar ormolu spandrels. The 8-day movement, with engraved backplate retains its original verge escapement striking and repeating hours on a bell, whilst the good dial has Strike/Silent control in the arch and a third gilded hand, to show the date. Signed: John Taylor to the cartouche below XII. 18ins high.

*John Taylor worked at 41, Upper Moorfields, from 1784 until 1788.
