The dial is of ornately engraved brass with a silvered chapter ring and Roman numerals. There is a silvered disc above the XII with the words 'Tempus Fugit' (Latin for 'Time Flies') engraved within, then below the VI the words 'Made in Great Britain', which dates it to the early 1920's. There are also ornate gilded brass spandrels to each corner of the dial and to either side within the domed top. Original ornate black steel hands.

The ornate hood is surmounted by an architectural pediment, with carved rosettes and topped by three turned wooden finials. To either side are fine turned columns which are mirrored in design in the trunk, where on either side of the figured walnut trunk door are 'reeded' columns.
The base box also sports a figured walnut panel and is supported on carved ogee bracket feet. In perfect working order and with both keys.
