Its About Time has dated this piece to the 1890s.
The Red shell case is not Tortoiseshell, it is a French laquer/resin that they used in the period and has a deep glossy Ruby lustre. The gilt decorations are very attractive and the handle is actually for carrying the clock from room to room as they may have done in the 'old' days! We have had 2 clocks by Planchon during the 41 years of being in business ,here (at the same address). Planchon worked and had residence in the Palais Royal , Paris. We would encourage you to visit us to see this very fine little clock in the real world as it really is a little gem! Circa 1890
