Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian and Gothic vestry cupboard is a low, three-door storage cabinet made of oak with a warm brown finish. It stands on bold, rounded bun feet and displays an incised diagonal frieze carving along the top border. The exterior reveals glazed doors with clear glass panes over a panelled interior back. Key details visible include dark wood framing, subtle keyhole hardware on the doors, and visible wood grain throughout the natural timber construction. The unit measures 92 cm high, 107 cm wide, and 57 cm deep. In a modern home, this practical double-sided storage piece finds a natural home in a living room, hallway, or study to house books, display objects, or store everyday items. The low profile allows the top surface to function as a display shelf for lamps or decorative accessories, while the compact footprint suits both traditional interiors and contemporary rooms seeking functional wooden storage with period character.

FAQs

A vestry cupboard is a specialised storage cabinet originally crafted for use in church vestries to hold ceremonial garments, religious books, and sacred vessels.

These cabinets are predominantly constructed from dense hardwoods such as solid oak or pitch pine, featuring brass hardware, glass panels, and traditional mortise and tenon joinery.

Authentic pieces exhibit architectural proportions, hand-cut joinery, incised geometric or gothic carvings, heavy framed backboards, and natural age-related patina on the timber.

A low glazed vestry cupboard functions well as a sideboard in a dining space, a hallway console for general storage, or a low bookcase in a living room.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a dry microfiber cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish along the grain once or twice a year, keeping the wood clear of direct moisture and heat sources.
