Geo II London Longcase Clock with Lacquered Case

18th century
Description

A lovely early 18th Cent Longcase Clock with very decorative lacquered case. It is by the London maker John Dewe who is listed as working in Southwark between 1733 and 1764.

The case is in good un-restored "country house" condition with most of the original lacquer intact. The decoration has had some restoration, particularly to the base but the overall impression is very good.

The five pillar 8 day movement strikes the hours on a bell. It has a subsidiary seconds dial, working date indicator and the all important strike / silent selector to the arch. As all London clocks should have it has an all brass pendulum and brass cased weights. The trunk door also has its original lock and key.

The maximum dimensions are

50cm(20") wide

226cm(89") high excluding top finial (+ 17cm)

26cm(10") deep
