Superb 18th Cent Mahogany Longcase Clock

18th century
Description

An 18th cent mahogany longcase clock with one of the nicest cases I have had in a long time. It stands on a double plinth and has a lovely slim trunk. The long trunk door has the most wonderful colour and figuring. The arched top hood has slim fluted columns with brass inlay.

The good quality 8 day movement strikes the hours on a bell and has a very attractive 12” brass dial signed in the arch by the maker Jacob Ettry of Rumsey (Romsey), Hampshire. He is listed as working there around 1740. The dial has a silvered chapter ring, subsidiary seconds dial and working date aperture.

The case is in superb condition and the movement looks to have been recently serviced and is in good working order. It is complete with pendulum, weights, bell and a winding key.

The maximum dimensions are:

51cm (20“) wide

219cm (86“) high

25cm (10“) deep

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
