A Fine Late 19th Century Bracket Clock By Maples

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Chequers Antiques

A fine late 19th century bracket clock in the George III style in an arch-top oak case with finely cast gilt bronze mounts including handle, underplate, bezel, sound frets, recess mounts, corner bars and feet. The ivory coloured painted dial with convex bevelled glass door with black Roman numerals and outer minute track, blued steel moon hands and with an eight day twin fusée movement with a pendulum with lenticular brass bob and striking the hours and half hours on a coiled gong. Signed to the dial ‘Maples London’. English, and with an English movement, circa 1890.

Condition: Excellent, the case is in wonderful condition and the gilt bronze mounts clean. The movement has been fully serviced and overhauled and is in full working condition. The dial has become somewhat crazed over time however it has been our decision not to repaint it. The numerals have been refreshed. The securing screw for the pendulum is a replacement. The gong has a pleasing deep sonorous tone.
