Antique Walnut 30 Hr Longcase Clock

19th century
Description

This is an unusual little longcase clock in that it has a painted dial and a single hand. I have had many brass dial clocks with a single hand but this is the first painted dial. However the dial and movement all look original.

The very neat looking case is in walnut and is probably later than the movement. This again is unusual in that it has a rising hood with no door.

The plated 30hr movement strikes the hours on a bell and has a decoratively painted dial. The dial is signed Snelling of Alton, this could be either John or James Snelling, both of them worked there in the late 18th, early 19th Century.

Altogether this is a very smart little clock that is in good condition and good working order.

The maximum dimensions are:

43cm (17“) wide

183cm (72“) high

23cm (9“) deep

Declaration

Cross Antiques has dated this piece to the 1800s.
