Description

Standing just 7 foot tall (214cm) including the Finial, This Charming Flame Mahogany Longcase Clock has come to us having passed through at least 3 generations of the same West Country Family. It has been well looked after, much loved and enjoyed.

John Hancock (Senior) 1791-1840 worked out of Yeovil. One of his Dials is examined in Brian Loomes' "Grandfather Clocks and their Cases" Book in plate 253 on Page 208. Around 1822 he was joined in Business by his Son John Junior. After 1840 James Hancock is Solely listed at Yeovil. With its Arabic Numbers, Gilt Decoration in the 4 Corners of Exploration Ships and False Plate Stamped Wilkes & Son, This particular clock dates to around 1815 - 1820.

The 8 Day Bell Striking Movement has been Checked, Oiled and Tested to be in Good & Full Antique Working Condition.

Clock height 83.5in or 212cm, Hood width 49, Base 48cm. Hood depth 26, Base 25cm.
