Late Georgian Scottish Mahogany Longcase Clock

19th century
Description

Late Georgian Scottish flame mahogany cased 8 day longcase clock by ROBERT WILKIE of CUPAR in FIFE. Round dial "Drum Head" type design which is very typical to Scotland at this period. The flame mahogany case has been made from the best of timbers and is very good quality. The hood has some nice moulded shaping with original cast brass bezel. The movement is the original one and has been fully serviced and comes with both original cast iron weights and the original brass pendulum. The clock case has been sympathetically restored to its former glory and is a nice colour with good patination and waxed finish. There is an old label pinned to the back of the clock inside with full details of the maker.

Robert Wilkie was in operation from around 1825 to his death in 1875, I would suggest this was one of his earlier examples from around 1835.
