John Beazor Antiques has dated this piece to the 17th Century.
The turned columns of the hood with gilded bases and capitals, and the flat-topped moulded hood with a (probably later) shallow surmount with holes for three finials. The trunk-door has an oval lenticle in a gilded frame.
John Shaw of Holborn(e) apprenticed in 1672 and a member of the Clockmakers' Company in 1682, of which he was Master 1712 - 15. This clock dates from the last years of the seventeenth century.
